Time to Reclaim the Dignity of the Sexy Filipina Woman!

You’d never expect it to actually happen to a Philippine blogger you knew.

Most of all, you’d never think it would be done by a Filipina to another Filipina (who happens to be a mother of 7, a doting grandma, a professional who has recreated herself into a creative writer and problogger, and most of all, a warm and loving friend).

Yes, my dear friend who goes by the handle SexyMom was not just flamed. Her virtual “attacker”, who went by the monicker “decent mother”, even went as far as issuing threats to her family by posting similar hate posts on the blogs of her children. Really now, is that a decent thing to do? You’re angry with someone and threaten her kids? What decent mother would do that?

Just to give you an idea of the indecent accusations hurled against SexyMom, this is one of the emails that “decent mother” sent her:

Author : Decent Mother
Comment:
You are a disgrace to the Filipino women. We have been trying to change the image of the Filipino women in the internet. Foreigners type “filipina” to search for women to have sex. The same kind of people (pedophiles and perverts) type “sexy mom” and it points to You . You are an embarassment to our country. Stop using SEXY MOM. Filipino mothers are loving caring mothers. Leave the SEX part in your bedroom . Mommy bloggers laugh behind your back because of your pseudonym. Filipino women are too polite to tell you to say that using sexy mom is killing the filipino women.

What “decent mother” failed to do was read the posts of SexyMom exhaustively before making her comments. Only then would she realize that SexyMom does not write about sex. It’s a wholesome site that dwells on motherhood, parenting, and warm-to-the-heart topics for everyone.

SexyMom has to be credited for bringing up such wonderful children. One of her sons, BA, wrote a lengthy, beautiful response that surely put “decent mother’s” rantings to shame. Even her grade school son, Alan Jr., wrote a short but touching expression of his sadness. A son’s defense of his Mom’s honor in the face of this virtual mudslinging is just outright heartwarming for any Mom and as we see her kids close ranks around her, all I can think of is — what a super, lucky woman SexyMom is!!!.

In response to the uncalled-for attack by decent mother, the entire Philippine blogosphere has now taken up the cudgels, not just in defense of SexyMom, but to reclaim the dignity of the sexy Filipina woman.

I now add myself to the growing number of bloggers (mind you, female AND MALE) who think it has been long overdue to take back all references to Filipinas, Filipina moms, sexy Filipinas, sexy Filipina moms, sexy moms, Pinays, and so on. In fact, I have added the description Filipina to my blog profile here.

It is now beginning to work. Where once, a Google search of the terms above would have directed you to sites for mail-order brides or porn sites, googling most of these keywords now will bring you to the wholesome Filipino sites, including those of bloggers who are now ONE in trying to ensure that search engines rank real, decent Filipino blogger sites high enough to outrank the sleazy sites that redefined the Filipina’s image in the sight of the entire world.

Marc Macalua, way back in 2004, began the Filipino crusade among bloggers through his post “Filipina and the Philippines” to take back the definition of the Filipino woman. Noemi Dado, another dear blogger friend, enumerated in her post “How to Reshape the Sexy Filipina Image (Filipino Woman)” the many ways by which each and every one of you can help keep sleaze, trash, mud and shame out of the Filipina’s image. When you blog, try to use the Filipina keywords as often as possible and create links to wholesome Filipino sites. I have tried to do that in this post and will consciously do this in future ones.

Only a narrow-minded, pea-sized-brained person would have the tunnel vision to equate SEXY with someone just good for a round of torrid sex. Filipinas are sexy because we are nurturing, compassionate, intelligent, confident of ourselves , compleat women in our respective careers, competent in multitasking, involved in multiple fields of interest, dignified and respected in society.

Personally, I consider myself a sexy Filipina woman along these descriptions, not according to decent mother’s dated and limited view of women’s roles in society. And hey, why shouldn’t I feel like a sexy Mom myself??? My kids and husband think so too!

Below are links to other blogs that are now attempting to reclaim our dignity as sexy Filipina moms and keep the image of the Philippines wholesome in search engine rankings. I will update this list as I find more sites.

  1. yes, Jane, slowly, we are reclaiming the dignity of the Sexy Filipino Woman–we can now see the changes in the google search.

Jane: Hope our efforts can reverse the Filipina’s negative image abroad.

  2. Actually I also own the 14th link (b3i.livejournal.com). It’s my “friends-only” blog (aaaand that’s the reason the other entries are invisible, hehehe).
Anyway. More power to the sexy Filipina! 🙂

Jane: Ahhh, so it’s still you! Hehe, thanks ba. And keep blogging about the sexy Filipina!

  3. he sexyMom is a nice person? i don’t see anything wrong if you celebrate your ‘sexiness’? you don’t always have to take things in the physical sense. decentMom must have taken it out of context. or maybe, just maybe, she’s dying to have that sexyMom monicker and too late for her… 😆

Jane: Hi there badoodles! “Decent mother” probably underestimated as well the extent to which pinoys and pinays came to the defense of SexyMom as well as the Pinay’s image, in general. 🙂

  4. am currently making my draft about this campaign/crusade too. lapit na.
and oh, sexy Pinay mommy rin ako! sizzling hot!!!

Jane: Cess, let me know when you’ve posted so I can add you to my links. Agree ako na sexy mommy ka rin! 🙂

  5. What decent mother would do that indeed! I read SexyMom’s blog and enjoy her posts a lot! She is indeed a sexy mom and I am too!

Jane: Hi, May! Here’s to another sexy mom! 🙂

  6. I have only one word to say to this indecent mom, stupid. Being sexy has nothing to do with sex. Tunnel-minded, pea-brained? Its an understatement.

Long time no blog for me as my sister-in-law is in town. It seems I have missed a lot. Nice retort sis to an indecent mom.

Jane: Welcome back to the blogging world, bro! Yes, I missed your blogging presence! I bet you “decent mother” never expected the deluge of anti-decent mother sentiments now flooding the Philippine blogging world. She should be more careful about hasty judgements about people.

Let me know what you think!
