A Personal Encounter with Fr. Fernando Suarez

Our community had a chance last Jan. 31 to attend a healing Mass with Fr. Fernando Suarez, the healing priest, whose healing Masses have been attended by thousands seeking healing for ailments and other afflictions. About 600 of us attended with our sick loved ones.

Ever since Fr. Suarez returned for a visit from Canada where his congregation, Companions of the Cross, is based, his schedule has been gruelling and exhausting. But he has always managed to smile through it all. He never takes the credit to himself and always does healing sessions only AFTER he celebrates Mass. He makes it a point to remind people that God heals but not always in the form we expect, which is usually physical. We also need healing on the spiritual and emotional aspects and there are times when that is what the Lord heals.

He said Mass at the Main Hall of our Center on the 3rd floor. I was assigned to a room on the 2nd floor that had a live feed from the cameras so we were able to follow everything going on. After Mass, we waited our turn as he began with those in wheelchairs. I saw him make several of them stand from their wheelchairs and walk a few steps. Many were “slain in the Spirit” (a term for what looks like fainting but is a response to the Holy Spirit enveloping you upon the touch of a holy person).

When it was our turn to go up to the Main Hall, I reviewed silently what I wanted the Lord to heal in me. I was thinking whether I would specifically ask that my episodes with kidney stones and dizzy spells are what I want Him to heal. But on second thought, I decided to leave it in God’s Hands and told Him that He knew best what needed healing in me.

When Fr. Suarez came to me, he gave this really huge smile and called me by name: “Hi, Jane!”. And when he touched my forehead, I too fell backward and rested on the floor for several seconds. It was a very peaceful feeling.

This phenomena is something I want to do more research on and maybe I will post about it sometime. But for now, I know I should not put too much stock in the extraordinary, outward events I have witnessed and experienced. What is really important, as pointed out to me by a Jesuit priest friend, is that whatever Fr. Suarez does makes me closer to God…and might I add, change me for the better.

I was never aware of the huge plans Fr. Suarez has to build an oratory to the Blessed Virgin Mary on a large tract of land overlooking Batangas Bay (and eerily, the name of the place is MonteMaria or “mountain of Mary”). Based on the plans I saw in their website, Mary Mother of the Poor Foundation, it will be even larger than Jesus’ statue in Sao Paolo, Brazil and about as high as the Statue of Liberty. It is meant to be a beacon for sea travelers plying the Philippine seas. Many are speculating whether this is part of the Marian message at Medjugorje that the Philippines is to become a global spiritual center.

Fr. Suarez’ website describes the entire place as follows:

As high as Statue of Liberty
Soon to become the center of Suarez’s healing ministry is Montemaria (Matuko Point) in the outskirts of Batangas City. Set on a hill on 20 hectares of land, the center of the Oratory of the Blessed Virgin at Montemaria will have chapels, prayer gardens, Stations of the Cross, retreat houses, campsites, lodging houses, a center for the poor and even a replica of Mary house in Ephesus (ancient city in Turkey). The place is meant to draw pilgrims who want to renew their faith.

I got this video from YouTube. It shows some testimonials on Fr. Suarez’ healing as well as plans for Montemaria.

This other video is a cyber healing prayer from Fr. Suarez. May you be blessed by his prayers for spiritual and physical healing.

  1. Hi, sis. Just recovered from flu. I’m glad to know you’ve experienced the Lord’s powers. I am all for Fr. Suarez if he can bring us closer to God. But I question those around him. A chapel would be nice if it serves the people. I am wary of him being exploited. If the construction would be too expensive, I would rather spend it on the sick and poor. The Lord never asked for such grandeur, He always taught us humility. Take care and don’t forget to drink water.

Jane: Hi there, bro. Yes, I missed your posts. And I am sorry to hear you had the flu. It’s in the air…

I know what you mean about the possibility of exploitation and yes, Fr. Suarez must learn to guard his heart and his mind so as not to allow this to happen. I think time alone will tell if he has indeed been blessed and given this healing mission by the Lord. False prophets have fallen by the wayside in the past so we just have to pray that in time, God’s Will prevails.

If I remember right from my grade school Religion class, Bernadette Soubirous, a poor and uneducated young girl in the mid-1880s, scooped dirt and ate grass, out of which a tiny bubbly water grew to be a large healing spring. No one believed her story about Mama Mary appearing to her. Much less her request for a large chapel in the middle of nowhere (at that time). It is only now, when we look at the hundreds of thousands who troop yearly to Lourdes for healing, that we understand the Divine Plan behind that request.

Let’s hope that if ever Montemaria does become a large healing place, it is partly because it is meant to heal so many of our sick brothers and sisters who cannot afford the services of doctors, hospitals and the high prices of medicines.

Take care of yourself too. I forget sometimes about the water but I continue to try to drink as much as I can.

    1. Hi. Just wondering why does fr. Suarez push people? No doubt people fall down. I’ve noticed that nobody faints or collapses if people he touches are being seated.

  2. You are so lucky! And I admire you for trusting God to know what needs healing. My dad also had this opportunity and he said he felt something when Fr.Suarez placed his hand on his forehead.

    Jane:
Hope your dad’s a lot better since! It was indeed a blessing to have that opportunity.

  3. Jane, you’re so lucky to be there. You are right–even if you did not ask for a specific petition, He will grant you healing and abundant graces, and that extends to your family as well, and friends (including me, of course). that’s faith in its highest. i just hope that people will realize that it is not Fr Suarez who heals, it is just him the Lord uses to heal. The Lord God is the Mighty Healer.

Jane: You’re right about the last part, Dine. And yes, I felt blessed to have been able to go to hear Mass with him.

  4. hi jane, im marian from pangasinan, i wrote you to ask help. ive a friend from australia, his name dean jonassen, he is sick with cancer. doctors told him, he has only 5 mos. to live. But he is a strong man, a believer of God. a very wonderful man who has kids to feed. he still wants to live and still have a lot to offer. jane, i beg you to help me on how to meet fr suarez if dean comes. he is coming 2 to 3 weeks from now. i hope you can help me. thank you very much aND GOD BLESS YOU!

Jane: Hi Marian. Thank you for writing. You are such a great friend to want to help out a dear friend. Unfortunately, Fr. Suarez has gone back to Canada where he is based. On his website, his schedule till July is in the U.S. However, there are claims (and I cannot vouch for these) that some have been healed just by praying along with him in his YouTube videos. You may also want to take your friend out to Montemaria, Batangas. There is nothing there right now but a small structure where Mass is held but if it is sacred ground (as many believe), the Lord will be there, whether Fr. Suarez is there or not. I hope your friend finds comfort and healing, however that healing is given by God. God bless you too.

  5. hi jane, i would like to check if marian bernal had the chance to meet dean here in the country. i think i know him (dean) either, he’s from australia who’s suffering from cancer. i would like to help him too. as far as i can remember, i gave him the PRAYER for HEALING from Father Suarez.

hope to hear from marian and be able to talk to her.

Jane: Let me see if I can put the 2 of you together…Thank you for visiting and may God bless you always.

  6. Thank you very much Jane, can i have marian’s email add instead?

  9. Hi Jane!! This is to inform you that we here at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish in ormoc City is very lucky to be given a schedule to host a one day healing session with Fr. Fernando Suarez. He is coming to Leyte, there are two sessions of healing in Tacloban September 23 & 24 at St. Niño Church and on the 24th at 7pm they will proceed to ormoc for a one night of Vigil Mass and prayers and healing the next day Sept 25 which will start with a mass at 9am.

We are right now very busy and excited for this blessed opportunity given to us to host such an eventful healing session with Father Suarez.

I am writing you so that you will know as the schedule is not yet in the Website of Fr. Suarez.

  10. Schumey, when you said “spend the money for the poor”, these verse is in the bible. Do you know who’s word is this? JUDAS.

  11. Have you ever heard of the mission of Carmello Cortez from the Phillipines? He has had many visits from Mary and is working to build a House of Prayer in the Phillipines. he travels the world doing healing services, and also distributes beautiful rose petals that have the most beautiful images on them, I have seen them torn right from a living rose, given to me and I now have St. Francis on mine, helping Jesus down from the cross. I can see individual thorns on His crown! If you hear about a visit from him I know you would love to see him. It seems to me that the Phillipines, a large Muslim stronghold in the Pacific, is being targeted by God for conversion and healing in light of these two holy men and their healing ministries.

  12. My reply is for the post (on February 4, 2008 at 5:09 pm Schumey).

If the big chapel or church to be constructed is for the Lord (not Fr. Suarez), then it deserves to be the biggest is could possible be and, still, it would not be enough as He deserves. We have to attend the Lord first, for the poor will always be there for us to take care of.

    (John 12: 3-8)
“3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, 5″Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii[b] and given to the poor?” 6He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. 8For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

My respect to Fr. Suarez, I think he (as well as Fr. Sudak) is one of the true living Saints these days.

    God bless you all.
