Benjamin Button Quotes I Love

Today, two friends and I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

No, it was not the fact that Brad Pitt was in the movie that got me there. It was because I knew this was another one of those movies filled with life lessons.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is about a man who is born in his eighties and over time, grows younger. The story begins in New Orleans at the end of World War I in 1918 and ends in the 21st century. His life is filled with people he meets, places he discovers, the loves he experienced, the many joys of life, and the sadness of losing people he loved. He also discovered what would last beyond a single lifetime.

The almost 3-hour movie dragged a bit in some places, especially the ones that showed him still aged. But Lynn pointed me to this site that listed some of the quotes that I totally related to:

#1

Benjamin: I was thinking how nothing lasts, and what a shame that is.

Daisy: Some things last.

(my thought bubble: LOVE lasts…)

#2

Along the way you bump into people who make a dent on your life. Some people get struck by lightning. Some are born to sit by a river. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim the English Channel. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people can dance.

(my thought bubble: I’m the mom and the girl who dances!)

#3

We’re meant to lose the people we love. How else are we supposed to know how important they are?

(my thought bubble: Do we need to wait to lose people we love to arrive at this realization? I wish people realized BEFORE loved ones die!)

#4

Your life is defined by its opportunities… even the ones you miss.

(my thought bubble: Oh so true!!!)

#5

I wanna remember us just as we are now.

(my thought bubble: I do exactly what Benjamin does — make a memory imprint whenever I want to remember a person or savor a moment…)

#6

Sometimes we’re on a collision course, and we just don’t know it. Whether it’s by accident or by design, there’s not a thing we can do about it.

(my thought bubble: This has been the story of my life for about 2 years now and this was what I had just blogged about!!!)

#7

You can be mad as a mad dog at the way things went; you can swear and curse the fates – but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.

(my thought bubble: Letting go is really the only way to forgive, move on, and be at peace…)

#8

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

(my thought bubble: This is what I wish for my own life and for everyone…)

If you still have not seen it, I would recommend you going with your spouse, special someone or close friend/s. Somehow, the impact of such a movie is stronger when the people you love watch with you.

  1. I wondered about this movie, perhaps now i would give it a try. I always love movies with a message. Thanks for sharing.

Jane: Hi Clary! Thanks for posting and I hope you enjoy watching Benjamin Button. 🙂

  2. Ang bilis a! Thanks, Jane, for asking me to see this movie with you. I love #s 8, 7, and 6 the most. In this order 😉

What a way to celebrate life, your life especially! I just thought, we should have really had THAT wine, he he.

Jane: Today was not yet MY celebration of life. We’re still going to set a date to have THAT wine. LOTS of wine, hehehe…

  3. This movie is always running through my head, it has the most amazing life lessons in it and thank you for letting me read those amazing quotes all over again 🙂

  4. Hi… I’ve just saw the movie yesterday and I’ve been enchanted by those quotes. They’re simple the way life is…
Thanks for scribing them, I love to remind me of those things whenever I can… life lessons

  5. Thankyou, i went to see this film last night and quote #8 made me cry (don’t tell my girlfriend she didn’t notice cos it was a dark cinema etc) i knew as soon as i heard it that i wanted to find it on line, so thanks again 🙂

  6. # 8 is incredible, the movie itself impressed me and since I am fan of Fitzgerald because of “The Great Getsby” and “Tales of the Jazz Age ” will have to read the short story. What thrills me is how of a short story the script writers made a 2:40 hour movie.

  7. I also liked those quotes from the movie:

“Life can only be understood looking backward. It must be lived forward”

“It’s funny how sometimes the people we remember the least make the greatest impression”

“Don’t let anyone tell you different! You got to do what you’re meant to do!”

“You’re as ugly as an old post, but you’re still a child of God,”

  8. I liked the quote of when the last time the man that got striked by lightning said… I don’t know how it exactly went but he said something like “…but I just realized God just keeps reminding me of how lucky I am to be alive!”

  9. I just got done watching this tonight….I cried about so many of these things….I found this when I searched for the quotes for the show…Printing them and keeping them near to me.

    thanks so much!

  10. This movie motivated me to change my way of life and the way I see life as a person. It made me realize that out mind is our most powerful weapon.

  11. Wow this movie is so comforting. Quote #7 makes me soo sad. I can relate because j just broke up with the real love of my life. #8 is obviously amazing. I also like when queenie and tizzie say ” you never know what’s coming for you.” I watch this movie often , it’s sooo beautiful and devastatingly sad.

  12. Ah man I’m crying again. Especially at number two. It is a principle that I only recently came into comprehension with in my short walk of life, how a vast majority of what makes up our lives is our connection with our special others. Its intense to appreciate others on such a level, to love them.

  13. My favorite quote is the one where he’s talking about going home and how everything is the same and that you find that it’s you that has changed.

  14. No matter what point of our lives we’re living on, if you embrace the 8th quote’s words, those simple words, it can become a turning point in your life. Nothing is impossible as we’ve heard several times, but if you find it hard to believe it or understand it just go back to, and i quote again, “i hope you live a life you’re proud of, if you find that you’re not, i hope you have the strenght to START ALL OVER AGAIN.” Overwhelmed everytime i read it. Amazed. Thank you, because these words have some odd power, a good power. Don’t you let it pass you.

  15. “no matter where I am, or who I am with,I found that my self saying: Good Night Benjamin.” Daisy — when u love someone for so long, then u will understand this.

  16. I also just watched this movie again today…it was kinda of a benjamin button marathon! Everytime im pissed off at people i love i watch it and i makes me understand that love isnt defined by some picture perfect romantic relationship..this film also motivated me to jump into life in a way that i was once too afraid of. Finally the real most important message is you can age backwards, forwards or sideways but its all about the journey and what you make of it.

Let me know what you think!
