If just for the use of shaved ice instead of ice chunks, Razon’s has my vote.
Eating halo-halo with huge chunks of ice was always an irritant. I always wanted to cut to the “meat” of it by scooping out and eating the beans, fruits, flan. And always the ice got in the way. I have even gone as far as asking for another bowl or cup where I could place the large ice chunks. It’s almost like the outlet serving it up does not care to go the extra mile to make it easier for their clientele to eat it.
Razon’s uses thinly shaved ice that does not shock the nerves in my teeth and the goat’s milk they put in it is the BEST. Also, they have tweaked the sweetness of their ingredients by putting in just the right amount of the saba, macapuno, beans, leche flan and other stuff that in themselves sweeten the dessert without having to add sugar.
In Metro Manila, a serving costs P65; in Guagua, Pampanga where we stopped enroute from Subic, it is P45.

love their ice as well, if only they could make the leche flan bigger:)
Jane: I so agree with you!!!
In San Diego, California, Conching’s Cafe was voted best Halo Halo by San Diego magazine and I have to agree with them.
Jane: Rick, they serve up Razon’s Halo Halo? Yes, I keep trying other food outlets’ halo halo but still keep coming back to Razon’s. π
I like it coz I want my halo simple.. π I also prefer it only with saba, camote, ube, leche flan, sago/ gulaman and nata de coco. No beans π
