My history with Clinique goes waaaayyy back to the years when I was in the States taking my masters degree. Being one with sensitive skin, I always relied on Clinique products which are all allergy-tested and 100% fragrance free. Clinique is not known for being cheap; I had to scrimp and save in order to buy the products I wanted to use. So whenever my late sister-in-law, who lived in Canada then the US, visited us she regularly gifted me with Clinique products.
Out of the blue, my friend Noemi invites me to a Clinique skin-typing. YEY! We went to Rustan’s Makati and had ourselves “typed” by Clinique. With us also were Noemi’s daughter Lauren and her friend Nikki.
Clinique’s 3-Step Skin Care System is Cleanse-Exfoliate-Moisturize. Cleansing removes dirt and oil (if you use makeup/foundation, you need a facial cleanser prior to the 3-Step Care. Exfoliating removes dead skin from the surface that make our skin look rough, dull, and flaky and helps skin renew faster. Moisturizing brings back the moisture into the already clean skin to keep it soft and hydrated.
My beauty consultant for the day was Malou Gagarin.
The first step was to analyze my skin type. Clinique categorizes skin types into 4:
Malou went through several questions with me which she entered into the Clinique Computer. The result: I am a Type 2 (Dry Skin with Combination Skin — that means my face is oily around the T-zone and dry everywhere else).
Next, she used the 3-step care on my right hand while on my left, she simply cleaned the area and applied moisturizer without exfoliation. The scotch tape test below is proof:
Malou then made some recommendations for other products that addressed my concerns. I ended up buying two products — a hydrator (Moisture Surge) and an eye cream.
Clinique is known for its generous giveaways when your purchases reach a certain amount. For a minimum of P3,500 they have a summer cosmetic bag with samples. Here are the free samples I came away with that day. These alone would have cost me several thousands already if bought separately so I think I got quite a good deal!
They’ve got a new product called the Superdefense SPF25/PA+++ Age Defense Moisturizer. The PA+++ is supposed to be added protection from UVB/UVA rays. I have a sample and am eager to try this one out.
Watch out also because Clinique is planning a blogger event soon.
Thanks May/Malou for making our Clinique experience a wonderful one!
I’ve always been a fan of clinique.

iliana,
you are skin type:
1=dry allover
2=oily in areas, dry for the rest of your face.
2=by midday, you need to moisturize
3=oily in areas, comfortable for the rest of your face
3=by midday, you don’t feel the need to apply a moisturizer
4=allover oily
breakouts are normal because our skin is purging itself of what’s trapped in the skin. by continued use, you will see your skin clearing with almost no marks at all. you will have that famous Clinique glow that’s promised by Clinique.
Love to see a fellow skin care enthusiast at work. Would you mind if I share this url with my clients? I think they’d find it useful. Thanks.
