Internet-less for 2 Days

Can I survive 2 days without checking my email, surfing the web, blogging, twittering?

My daughter C1 was amused yesterday when I related to her that I had called the hospital where I will be for these next 2 days. I asked the Information person there if their hospital had Wifi, to which she answered “Ano ho yun?”. I think that meant NONE.

So here I am in the midst of packing a gym bag filled with stuff for the hospital. I am putting in the chargers of my cellphone and PDA (loaded to the max with my favorite music), got “The Secret” book and will pick up another book that Cathy is giving me (bless her sweet heart) to while away the time, and maybe logic and crossword puzzles.

So 48 hours, minus my sleeping time minus the medical procedure (to blast my kidney stones) minus the hours when I would still be in a stupor…..hmmm, that stay may not be so bad after all!

Sometimes, it is good to be weaned from too much technology to enjoy the simple things we used to have in our low-tech childhood.

But, as I commented in a post on Deedee’s blog, I still can’t do without my cellphone beside me all the time.

So it will be silence from me for the next 2 days. All my commenting on friends’ blogs will be on hold. Please pray for my successful medical procedure (warm hugs to all those who left comments/email/texts/twitters promising prayers). And in 2 days, I will be back (with a vengeance!).

Time to Reclaim the Dignity of the Sexy Filipina Woman!

You’d never expect it to actually happen to a Philippine blogger you knew.

Most of all, you’d never think it would be done by a Filipina to another Filipina (who happens to be a mother of 7, a doting grandma, a professional who has recreated herself into a creative writer and problogger, and most of all, a warm and loving friend).

Yes, my dear friend who goes by the handle SexyMom was not just flamed. Her virtual “attacker”, who went by the monicker “decent mother”, even went as far as issuing threats to her family by posting similar hate posts on the blogs of her children. Really now, is that a decent thing to do? You’re angry with someone and threaten her kids? What decent mother would do that?

Just to give you an idea of the indecent accusations hurled against SexyMom, this is one of the emails that “decent mother” sent her: Continue reading “Time to Reclaim the Dignity of the Sexy Filipina Woman!”

A Bloggers Yoga Class is A-Brewing!

An exciting fitness event is coming up this Tuesday, June 19 in the Ortigas area — an unplanned, spur-of-the-moment yoga class to be attended by 4 bloggers!

Just through email and chats, 3 wonderful, daring bloggers (2 of whom are PMN mommies) plan to join me at Vinyasa Yoga Center this coming Tuesday, June 19, for the 11:00 AM class — Cathy, Dine and Jayvee.

Our goal? An hour and a half of great yoga and a simple bonding-over-lunch afterwards at Greenhills Christian Fellowship (just a stone’s throw away from the yoga center).

What truly amazes me is this — I still have to personally meet Cathy and Jayvee. Ang lalakas ng loob ng mga ito to trust me, sight unseen! Hahahaha….

In case any of you are free and wish to join us, invitations are open. Drop me a line at my newly-born yoga blog, The Yogini From Manila. You may also email me at <herestolife.jane@gmail.com>. Here are some more details:

* Venue is Vinyasa Yoga Center, 17/F, Strata 100 Bldg, Felix Ortigas Road (formerly Emerald Ave.), Ortigas Center. There are several open, pay parking areas in the vicinity. There is one right beside the building.

* Please be there before 11 AM. Classes start promptly and it is recommended that you do some warm-up exercises prior to actual class

* Attire: For tops — spandex top or loose tshirt. Bottoms: shorts or jogging pants. Bring a small towel to wipe off sweat.

* The Center has yoga mats for first-timers (bring your own if you have one). However to ensure there will be enough mats, anyone interested has to contact me prior to Tuesday.

* Preferably eat at least 2 hours before 11AM so your food has time to digest. Sufficient hydration (drinking water) prior to class is highly recommended but NO DRINKING OF WATER DURING THE CLASS PROPER.

* The center is still in the process of putting in a shower area so bring extra set of clothes.

* The trial session costs P400.

LET’S GET FIT!!!!

My Yoga Blog is Born

This week is a birthday of sorts. I decided to open up a new blog solely for yoga.

It had been on my mind for some time already. I still have to see a comprehensive site or blog that would list yoga studios throughout the Philippines (in case there are people who wished to start their yoga practice outside of MM or Luzon but did not know where to go). I also dreamt of putting everything I wanted to know, already knew or wished to share about yoga into this one site, rather than mix them all up with this site.

For now, this blog is a work in progress….and I think it will never stop being one. There will always be something new about yoga that you and I can discover, experience and share.

Come visit me at The Yogini from Manila. Namaste.

The Pinoy Moms Network Mommy Lunch

The day all the PMN mommies were waiting for finally came. Last May 26, 2007, 12 mommies came together (many meeting each other for the first time) to attend the mommy lunch of the Pinoy Moms Network organized by co-founders Connie Veneracion and Noemi Dado. Venue was Swiss Deli & Bistro along Pioneer St., Mandaluyong.

I cannot describe the feeling when I finally came face to face with the mommies behind blogs I had been visiting. Instead of just a thumbnail picture, here they were in front of me (the likes of Noemi, Dine, Rach, Cess, Feng, Chats, Salen ). There were others who had no pictures in their blogs but as soon as they introduced themselves, we would instantly connect them with their blog alias “Ah, ikaw pala si (blog pseudonym)…!” (like Julie, Lisa, Lynn). What I found amazing was how a group of strangers bonded instantly like long lost friends — and all because blogging brought everyone together through PMN. From blog posts, most of us were delighted to see Nico and the other kids in person. Their faces were long familiar to us,

Right after lunch, I had to run home and finish packing for an overnight trip just outside MM (at Pililla, Rizal) where daughter and her Ateneo friends were spending the night. It was a hectic afternoon for me but I would not have missed that lunch for the world.

The success of this first-of-many (o ayan, nagpaparinig na kami…) lunches, dinners, outings, pow-wows — whatever you call girl friends’ excuses for coming together for more bonding — should be credited to none other than the 2 hardworking mommies behind PMN in the first place…Connie and Noemi. Thanks to you both, you are opening up further the world of blogging to us and showing us that this goes beyond just being an online diary.

To all my new mommy friends: it was so delightful to see all of you. It was well worth it! I am sure we are all looking forward to meeting all the other PMN members in future events.

Janette Toral’s Book Launching

I had the privilege to meet and chat briefly with Janette, one of the organizers of the recent iblog3 summit.

This coming May 2007, Janette will be launching her e-book and of all things, she is giving away 100 free copies under certain conditions. Check out her blog site if you want one too. It would be great if I am still lucky enough to fall within the first 100 bloggers to get this book. As a newbie blogger, who attended her very first summit, I was overwhelmed at how much I STILL HAD TO LEARN ABOUT BLOGGING. The problogging facet of it intrigues me since being at home most days, I am online almost always, so why not try to monetize that time and be even more useful, di ba? Janette’s e-book is sure to push me in the right direction and get me up and running on blogging. Continue reading “Janette Toral’s Book Launching”
