I Just Voted!

I know, I know….I said I normally do not blog about politics. But exercising one’s right to elect the RIGHT people to try and RIGHT what is WRONG in this country was so important to me that I just had to blog about it (with photos to boot!).

It seems so easy to just shrug our shoulders and say “What’s the point?”….

It is even more discouraging to see hardly any new names in the choices — just the same old trapos (traditional politicians) — who make promises written on water…..

It is frustrating to see the blatant corruption that mark all past elections (this one included), where vote-buying in the guise of insurance cards, membership cards and the like are used (and COMELEC actually rules that these are NOT in violation of the Elections Code)

It angers one to see legitimate party-lists being harassed with threats of disqualification while obviously vested NEW party-lists are easily accredited with qualification rules being “bent” to accommodate them.

YES, any of the above were good reasons for me NOT to vote.

BUT I DID.

A Book That Could Save a Relationship

If ever there is a book that will save many a marriage or relationship (and make you laugh while reading it), THIS IS IT — “Why Men Don’t Listen & Women Can’t Read Maps”. My feet were killing me at a mall while I waited for hubby to pick me up, so I dodged into the bookstore and ended up buying this one.

I had read “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” and it was good, intellectual reading — that is, if you got to finish reading it from cover to cover. This book, authored by Allan & Barbara Pease, may be a very simplified version of the Venus-Mars one but it does play up so many of the irritants that can crop up between a man and a woman and gives a logical explanation to them — that when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of things, men and women are indeed WIRED DIFFERENTLY and, in the authors’ words, “the way our brains are wired and the hormones pulsing through our bodies are the two factors that largely dictate, long before we are born, how we will think and behave. My Take on May 14 and Mikaela Irene Fudolig

In a week’s time, elections will be upon us. I normally do not talk about (least of all, blog about) politics. The dirt that is continually stirred up is enough to give me an asthmatic attack just reading the newspapers.

A sample ballot is plastered right in front of my computer. And so far, it is still almost all blank.

For the senatorial slate, I am sure to vote straight for the 3 Kapatiran candidates (Adrian Sison, Zosimo Paredes and Martin Bautista). No question about it! I can see the sincerity in their faces and being non-politicians, they are even more credible. They have a platform that does not only talk of the social and economic dimensions but more so, the MORAL and SPIRITUAL dimensions that I found lacking in the platforms of old political candidates. I came across an article where Kapatiran had supposedly accepted the possibility of NOT making it — but what the heck. I want to make a personal statement through my vote. I am sick and tired of all the empty promises and the stench of corruption surrounding the elections. It is high time that decency is brought back not just to the polls but to the nation in general. Moral decay is all around us. Only we can clean our backyards.

I have 9 more senatorial candidates to go! Nope, 8. I am voting for Chiz Escudero pala. Over the next few days, I will try to complete my magic 12. Ang hirap!

Now, the bright and hopeful side of all this is a 16-year old lady by the name of Mikaela Irene Fudolig. She is the 16-year old Summa graduate of UP for 2007. Her valedictory message intrigued me no end because I always imagined that it was the road less traveled that would take our nation out of its misery. A Golden Jesuit Anniversary

50 years of anything is a golden achievement.

Reaching 50 years of age is more than half a lifetime for most.

Reaching 50 years of marriage is sheer Divine Grace. (I know someone who will jokingly quip, “You mean…sheer misery!!!”)

Tonight, we just came from a dinner that celebrated 50 years of service to the Lord and to the Jesuit community. One of the original elders of our community, Fr. Herb Schneider, S. J. has been a Jesuit priest for that long. Continue reading “A Golden Jesuit Anniversary”

Our Friendly Neighborhood Guy…

Had a L-O-N-G afternoon with 4 of my yoga friends. We had lunch (another excuse for bonding), did some serious talking about something we 4 were getting into, and broke up around 4:00 pm.

V wanted to buy some groceries and we were also looking for a shop that photocopied some documents so off to V-Mall we went. As we passed by Toy Kingdom, a huge crowd was gathering at the display windows. Guess who was inside — good ol’ Spidey!!!

Just could not let an opportunity pass me by so off I went inside the store, making my way inch by inch to the front where I snapped several pics of the sticky guy.

This was the best shot I got. I REALLY have to work on my photography skills!!!!

Thoughts on Labor Day (and Mother’s Day!)

I got up today to the sound of fireworks. At first I wondered about the occasion, then realized it was Labor Day today (May 1). Then the thought crossed my mind — Mother’s Day also falls on the month of May.

What could Labor Day and Mother’s Day have in common? Lots!!!!! For who else labors more intensely, loves more passionately, has no set work schedule (available 24/7) , gives no thought to being justly compensated, but mommies like us?
