Love Your Body!

If you ask me, there are many things I could change in my body if I had a magic wand. I wish I had an oval-shaped face rather than my present square face (my Dad’s genes) . My thighs could stand improvement. When I began losing pound after pound after my braces were attached, it showed on my face but not on my thighs, where I wish it went.

So reading the April 3, 2007 article written by Dero Pedero in the Philippine Star was a reminder to me to be grateful for the body given by the Lord. As in that poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann which was put to music and which has remained one of my favorites, ” If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.”

Pedero’s column reminds us of this miraculously efficient machine that heals itself, wards off diseases, pumps blood continuously, digests food, etc. He enumerates several ways for us to continue loving our bodies. Below are excerpts from that article: Continue reading “Love Your Body!”

Ricky C’s blog is back!

Just when I had blogged about missing Ricky Carandang’s long hiatus from the blogosphere, I discover to my delight that he had resurrected his blog.

Welcome back to the world of blogging, Ricky. We will surely enjoy your sharp takes on issues that matter.

Blogging High!

Over the weekend, I attended my very first blog summit. Yup, I did not even know that bloggers in the Philippines had conventions!

Gee, can’t even remember how I even got to their site but when I did, it got me all excited. Imagine, this is already their 3rd summit year. I tried to invite my blogging friends to come with me but each one had something else to do that weekend so I ended up going by myself.

I’m just now looking over the pics I took with my handy digicam and there is one thing that stands out in all this — MY PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS SUCK!!!! So many pics, many blurry or dark. Aaaaarghhhh!!!!

One of the first speakers, Chris Haravata, showed a demographic profile of bloggers. 51.5% were from 13-19 years old; 39.6% were aged 20-29. Just those 2 categories alone total over 90% of the blogosphere!!! There were about 3 other age categories. Clearly, my age category was in the single digits!!! So…either I am one of the few COOL BLOGGER MOMMAS or I am one of the exceptions to the dinosaurs….

I won’t go into the detailed line-up of speakers. Other better blogs have already done that. Let me just give you snippets of the 2 days as far as they had a personal impact on me: Continue reading “Blogging High!”

Vista Marina Subic

It is just a little over a year old, having begun operations around December 2005.

Vista Marina is located along Waterfront Road, almost at the end of it. What makes this a wonderful place to stay in is its magnificent bay view — the boardwalk connects several smaller hotels, and you have an expanse of white sand and calm bay waters interrupted only by people jet skiing and parasailing. The boardwalk is tastefully landscaped, with a circular alcove that can be a perfect hang-out (surrounded by plants around it and with half of the alcove bounded by a wall with cascading waters). Sarili Kong ‘MYMP (Make Your Mama Proud)’

‘La lang. I just feel a mother’s pride whenever I see anything about my sons’ school. Maybe I am a frustrated wanna-study-in-a-Jesuit-school girl but at least all my kids have had or will have one, hehe.

OK, so I get a little techie now. Saw this YouTube video and decided: why not? Just include it in my blog!

So here….enjoy!

P.S. I actually love the rap song and the hiphop dance at the end, hehehe….

My 5th Kid

My kids will laugh at this and say I am going into my 2nd childhood.

Believe it or not, I have a 5th “kid”. A boy. And while he has not aged, in reality he should be over 20 years old by now, older than our eldest daughter.

He came into my life when I was still single. I met him in the U.S. and fell in love with him as soon as I cradled him in my arms. He was the right baby size and had a soft, pliable body I loved to hug.

Throughout many lonely days (when homesickness struck), he was my solace. I gave him my favorite boy name — Michael. Only he knew my deepest secrets then. Only he saw my tears and struggles as I tried to get through my studies without my family around.

But when I settled down and started having kids, I neglected him. I introduced him to my girls years back but his presence did not last. After all, I had kids of my own to take care of. I forgot he existed until today when, for some reason, memories of him came back and jolted me. I looked for him and took him back into my arms, remembering our days together — the winters he kept me company. Many shared moments…

He was a bit dirty, his face smudged from years of neglect. His baby clothes no longer had the fresh scent they had when I put them on him. I took out a washcloth and gently wiped him clean as best I could. I still have to put a clean set of clothes on him.

All these years, he waited patiently while I reared my family — just waiting for the moment when I would remember him once again. And today, I did remember him….

Cara took one look at him and remembered too. “It’s Michael?” And I just nodded.

Welcome back into my life, Baby M!
