Implementation of the new check design is deferred by PCHC to May 2024. AGAIN!

I wish our banks and the Philippine Clearing House Corporation (PCHC) were more systematic about changes affecting clearing.

Just days after most news organizations reminded the public that they had only till May 1, 2023 to use checks in the old format, the PCHC issued another memo deferring implementation by one year to May 1, 2024.

Only checks compliant with the new PCHC format will be accepted for clearing starting May 2, 2023. Are you ready? (updated)

(UPDATE: The PCHC has deferred implementation of the new check design to May 1, 2024. See my update HERE.)

If you have a checking account, it is time to look at your checkbook/s. By May 2, 2023, checks in the old format will no longer be accepted for clearing.

The new check format will now have boxes in the date field so that the date can be entered in MM-DD-YYYY format. The signature area and peso amount areas will also have boxes. The peso sign will now be found outside the area for the amount.

Money Saving Tip: Pay Your Real Property Tax Early (Updated)

When do you pay your annual real property tax?

Sec. 60 of the Real Property Tax Code (or PD No. 464) states:

“Payment of real property taxes in installments. — Real property taxes may, in the discretion of the taxpayer, be paid without penalty in four equal installments; the first installment to be due and payable on or before March thirty-first; the second installment, on or before June thirty; the third installment, on or before September thirty; and the last installment, on or before December thirty-first, except the special levies authorized under Sections forty-seven and fifty-five of this Code which shall be governed by the local ordinance or Department Order issued by the Secretary of Finance, as the case may be.”
